To be held Tuesdays at 7:30pm starting April 5, 2011.
Training and certification of Professional Therapy Dogs. The field of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is rapidly expanding. Teachers, school counselors, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational and physical therapists are all discovering the benefits of having a dog available for their students or clients.
This class will cover basic obedience commands but will go far beyond sit, down, and stay. Dogs will be acclimated to various working and social conditions. Training will include "real world" scenarios to get you and your dog ready to be partners in your working environment.
Documented health and sociological benefits found when using a dog as a team member:
Lowers blood pressure

Stabilizes mood Increases social interaction
Increases vocalizations Stimulates physical interaction Distracts from pain
FDT&BC can help you train and prepare your dog to be a partner in your profession. Experts in the field will also give you specific ways to use your dog effectively. If your dog does not have a suitable temperament for Professional Therapy Dog work, we will help you find one that does. We work closely with Caring Hands and the Kansas Humane Society temperament testing dogs of all types and sizes that could potentially be team member in various fields of Animal Assisted Therapy.
